Kricket’s Tavern fatal shooting suspect sentenced

Michael Scott was sentenced to 22 years to life in prison for killing Springfield native Joshua Hamilton

Scott chose not to address the court during sentencing.

Judge Michael Krumholtz said the fatal shooting was a “senseless act of violence.”

The great aunt of Hamilton spoke during this afternoon’s sentencing.

Scott still faces charges for a separate robbery.

Closing arguments have begun in the trial of 20-year-old Michael D. Scott, who is charged in the September 2015 shooting death of 19-year-old Joshua Hamilton at Kricket’s Tavern.

The case may be handed over for the jury to decide before the end of the day.

Opening statements were made Wednesday before noon. The Montgomery County prosecutor argued that Michael D. Scott, 20, shot and killed 19-year-old Joshua Hamilton during a fight at Kricket’s Tavern on September 27, 2015.

Scott’s defense team told jurors Scott did not fire the fatal shot during the fight.

The trial for Michael D. Scott for the fatal shooting at Kricket’s Tavern in Huber Heights is expected to begin today.

INITIAL REPORT (July 13)

The man accused in a fatal shooting last September at Kricket’s Tavern in Huber Heights has been indicted in a home invasion that occurred months before.

Michael D. Scott was indicted on two counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of aggravated burglary and two counts of kidnapping, according to court records.

A spokesperson for the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office said Scott is suspected of being involved in a home invasion in the 4900 block of Leeper Street on July 15, 2015.

Scott is expected to be in court for his arraignment Thursday and remains in the Montgomery County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Scott’s trial for the fatal shooting at Kricket’s Tavern is expected to begin next week.
