Man could face felony for spitting on officer

A man who was being booked into jail on several misdemeanor charges this morning now finds himself facing a possible felony charge after he alleged spit in the face of a Dayton Police officer.

James Beasley, 53, was taken into police custody at about 2:30 a.m. this morning on Litchfield Avenue for disorderly conduct and obstructing official business.

According to a police report, he was in a house were police responded to multiple calls for service for possible domestic violence. Officers asked everyone in the house for IDs and that’s when Beasley allegedly cursed at them and appeared intoxicated. He was arrested after he allegedly lunged at another resident with a lighter and continued to be combative with officers, according to the report.

Once at the Montgomery County Jail, Beasley allegedly spit twice in the face of the arresting officer. A possible charge of assault on a police officer, a fifth degree felony, was added to his booking.

He has a history of minor misdemeanor arrests for public intoxication and disorderly conduct, according to jail records.
