Police continue to investigate the events behind a domestic dispute that led to the shooting of a 52-year-old man.

The victim, David Bolling of Cincinnati, was shot twice just before 8:53 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 2000 block of Woodcreek Drive, according to the Fairfield Police Department.

Despite his injuries, Bolling was conscious and able to speak when police and a life squad responded to the scene, according to Fairfield police Sgt. Greg Valandingham.

Scanner traffic indicated a medical helicopter landed at Mercy Health-Fairfield Hospital and took Bolling to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

Fairfield police chief Mike Dickey said Bolling was undergoing surgery. Miami Valley Hospital spokeswoman Nancy Thickel confirmed that Bolling is being treated at MVH but said his condition is not being released.

The person who fired the shots is believed to have fled the scene driving a dark-colored sedan, according to police.

He contacted the police department and provided information that requires additional investigation, police said.

“He wanted to provide his version of events,” Dickey said.

Police initially said the shooter is the ex-boyfriend of the woman who lives at the residence and the man who was shot is her current boyfriend.

In the afternoon, police said while both Bolling and the person firing the shots are known to the home’s resident, it is unclear if those individuals knew each other.

A Woodcreek Drive resident who declined to be identified told the Journal-News she saw a man pull up to the home around 8:45 a.m. She said he wore a hooded sweatshirt that obscured his face as he walked around to the back of the residence.

“I thought it was odd and I should have called the cops when I saw that,” the resident said. “I hopped into the shower and when I came out, the car was gone and about five minutes after that, numerous cops and ambulances were here.

“He looked like he knew where he was going, that’s why I didn’t think it was random.”

The quiet cul-de-sac typically does not produce what occurred Sunday morning.

“We’ve lived here for 27 years and never seen something like that,” the resident said. “It’s scary.”
