EARLIER REPORT (Aug. 21)
A West Carrollton man was killed and a woman critically injured early today in a shooting.
The fatality was 27-year-old Jesse Rae Pierce, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. Laura Castro, 28, remains a patient at Miami Valley Hospital.
Police and medics were called around 12:10 a.m. to the shooting that happened in the 4000 block of Vina Villa Avenue near the North Gettysburg Avenue intersection.
“When we arrived, we found two people shot,” said Dayton police Lt. Mark Ponichtera. “There’s a female who’s been removed to Miami Valley Hospital in critical condition and there is a male on scene who has been shot to death.”
The man, in his mid-20s, was not yet identified. He was found inside a white Chevrolet Impala, which was to be towed from the scene to a police lot. The woman was identified, but police were not releasing her name early today. She is in her late 20s, the lieutenant said.
The original call indicated the shooting scene was in the area of Hoover and Goodlow avenues, but Ponichtera said the caller may have been confused or not able to communicate her location at first due to her injuries.
“We believe that the female victim actually made the call,” he said.
The lieutenant said the crime scene is in the 4000 block of Vina Villa Avenue, but he would not confirm whether both victims were shot inside the car. No suspect information was released, and detectives are working to talk to witnesses.
