Mom left child to commit crime, police say

A Kettering mom is now facing a new criminal charge stemming from an allegation by police that she left her 2-year-old child alone at home while she was in Dayton committing a crime.

Amanda Troutt, 23, is charged with Kettering Municipal Court on one count of misdemeanor child endangerment, Kettering Officer Ron Roberts said Wednesday afternoon. Troutt remains in the Montgomery County Jail on a felony count of breaking and entering.

Troutt, according to a Dayton police incident report, "became hysterical" when she was arrested Wednesday morning because her child was home alone in Kettering.

She was arrested on that charge with Michael Bellert, 24.

Dayton police connected Troutt and Bellert to an attempted breaking and entering on Creighton Avenue that occurred at about 4:30 a.m. Neighbors told police they saw a man and woman break a window of the house and attempt to enter it.

Police said Troutt told them she and Bellert were at the residence because they were looking at the property to buy it.

Bellert was also charged with felony drug possession because while he was being booked into the county jail, police said they found a bag containing 1.4 grams of suspected heroin in his sock.

Kettering police called Montgomery County Children Services to Troutt's house to take custody of the child, according to the Dayton police report.
