Kirsch struggled with Stevens, who had a warrant for his arrest from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office for a probation violation, when both fell and landed on the grass and concrete curb below.
Kirsch was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he was being treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. Stevens was transported to Atrium Medical Center.
The pursuit began when Brittany Winkler, who was involved in a disturbance with Stevens, flagged down Kirsch as he was driving his cruiser on Charles Street near Reinartz Boulevard. Police say Stevens fled because of the warrant for his arrest.
The incident remains under investigation, and charges against Stevens are pending. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Rich Bush at (513) 425-7738.
In 2007, Kirsch was involved in an incident in which he fatally struck pedestrian Donald “Pops” McCray in his cruiser while responding to a call for an officer down at the former Coconutz night club on Cincinnati-Dayton Road.
