Reports of several thefts from vehicles brought additional police patrols to the area of Applewood Circle in Oxford. And those efforts paid off at 2:40 a.m. June 8 when an officer received a report of a theft in progress.
Several vehicles on the street were found to have their dome lights illuminated, indicating doors were ajar. The officer saw a man come from behind a residence on a bicycle and immediately turn and go back when he saw the officer, according to a police report.
The officer tried to locate the person but was unsuccessful until finding the bicycle in the back parking lot of Kramer Elementary.
The man was later located in the backyard of a residence on West Sycamore Street.
The suspect attempted to run from police, but finally slowed down and said, “I’m done,” according to the police report.
The juvenile was placed in a cruiser and a search revealed a pair of black RayBan sunglasses, gold-framed aviator RayBan sunglasses, gold-framed aviator sunglasses with a broken nose piece, rose gold-colored aviator sunglasses, leatherman tool with a name engraved on it, lighters, a gold watch with a blue face, five $1 dollar bills and $15.83 in change.
The juvenile was taken to the police station, where he was read his rights and refused to speak without an attorney present. Paperwork was processed.
Meanwhile, other officers returned to Applewood Circle to contact owners whose vehicles had been broken into.
Six owners were able to be contacted and reported missing various items as described as having been found in the juvenile’s possession.
The juvenile, 17, was charged with six counts of receiving stolen property and one of obstructing official business and transported to the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center.
