Police: Man beat girlfriend with baseball bat

A man was arrested today after police said he beat his girlfriend with a baseball bat.

Shortly before 1 p.m., police responded to the 100 block of Dover Street on an assault complaint. When police arrived, the victim told police she had been arguing with her boyfriend, and when she felt threatened, she retrieved a baseball bat from a bedroom to protect herself, police said.

The suspect then took the baseball bat and struck her several times on her arms and head. Her injuries were not serious, but she will have some bruising, police said.

Police said the relationship is turning "more and more violent," and the suspect has been charged with assault before.

The couple does not live together and they do not have children together.
