Shoplifting, car theft suspect injured after police chase

WEST CHESTER TWP. – A person suspected of stealing merchandise from Walmart led police on a chase that ended in a crash Sunday.

West Chester Twp. police responded at 3:16 p.m. to a possible shoplifting in progress report at Walmart, 8288 Cincinnati-Dayton Road. Loss prevention officers at the store believe the same suspect was involved in a theft at the same store on Aug. 2.

The suspect, Mark A. Newton, 26, of Wyoming Avenue in Cincinnati, allegedly left the store, got into a vehicle reported stolen out of Cincinnati and refused to stop for police. Newton went south on Interstate 75 to west on I-275, then south on Ohio 747 and east on Kemper Road. The suspect struck a landscape rock while attempting to double back in the 2300 block of Kemper Road.

Newton was taken to Bethesda North Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was charged with failure to comply, a third-degree felony.
