A Hamilton man was charged

with OVI during a traffic stop after allegedly tailing a police cruiser with his high beams on around 1 a.m. According to police reports, Sergio A. Rodriguez-Guerreo, 44, of 507 S. Front St., was driving along South Erie Highway and slowed down in his Ford Explorer so an officer could pass him. Then he reportedly didn’t signal a lane change, had his high beams on and was tailing the officer’s cruiser. Police reports say the suspect then passed the officer and didn’t initially stop when signaled to. Once the suspect did stop, police say he allegedly had slowed speech, red eyes and smelled of alcohol. Rodriguez-Guerreo allegedly didn’t have a driver’s license but gave police his Mexican Consular identification card. The suspect’s blood alcohol content reportedly registered 0.177, more than twice the state’s legal driving limit. Rodriguez-Guerreo was charged with OVI and OVI of 0.177. Rodriguez-Guerreo’s passenger, Guadalupe Mendoza-Leva, was arrested early Wednesday morning as well after fleeing on foot when his friend was pulled over. Mendoza-Leva was later found lying in the snow on Bonacker Avenue. He reportedly had no identification and was intoxicated. Police reports say he refused to tell officers his year of birth. The suspect was charged with disorderly conduct intoxication, resisting arrest and obstructing official business.
