CENTERVILLE – Several fees at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace will increase next year - with one doubling - in moves officials said are designed to either better compete with other venues or streamline rate structures.

Golfers will be paying more for most rounds and the fees for renting many clubhouse facilities will also rise, records show.

The largest increases will be in room rentals, with customers paying more for five of eight options outlined in documents.

The sharpest of those hikes will be for a five-hour rental of the ballroom and restaurant, which will jump from $500 to $1,000, according to changes approved by Centerville City Council.

Room rental “prices have not been adjusted for many years. Therefore, we are recommending increases to catch up to competitors’ fees and with probable high demand resulting from approaching clubhouse improvements,” Yankee Trace Administrator Steve Marino said in a November memo.

Yankee Trace plans an estimated $1.8 million renovation aimed at expanding usage at the 32,000 square foot clubhouse and rear patio.

Centerville wants to make the clubhouse more accommodating to weddings, holiday parties, business meetings and other special events, Marino has said.

Marino told the Dayton Daily News “most of the fees are not affected” by changes. Records indicate that dozens of rates for items such as memberships, instruction, golf club rental and use of practice facilities will remain largely unchanged.

But many golf rates will increase slightly at the 27-hole course that has in recent years annually recorded more rounds played than ever before.

Green fees for 18 holes Monday through Thursday will go up to $39, a $2 hike from 2020 rates while the cost for nine holes those same days will increase $1 to $21, records show.

Friday green fees will increase $1 for both nine and 18 holes, up from $22 and $43, respectively, this year.

For weekends and holidays, only the nine-hole rate will rise, increasing $1 to $25, according to city records.

“Green fee rates are the main staple of a golf course,” Marino said in the November memo. “Not only do they account for the largest amount of revenues, they represent the perceived value of a facility. Yankee Trace was designed as a high-end daily fee golf course for citizens interested in an upscale experience.

“For many years green fees remained stagnant because of market pressure and the laws of supply and demand,” he added.

The city “began gradually increasing fees a few years ago” and the changes for 2021 are “mostly designed to streamline the fee structure.”

Some golf cart rentals will also rise. They will increase to $13 – a $1 hike – for 18 holes in the midday and afternoon, according to the changes.

Golf cart rentals after 4 p.m. will increase from $8 this year to $10.
