Beavercreek author publishes first novel

Sarah Sellers has been writing since the age of six and now, at the age of 19, the Beavercreek resident has had her book, “The Arcandin,” published.

“I remember having immense pride over my first short story, a three-page tale about a beagle. I’ve always loved reading and words, ever since I was very little, and I’ve always had a vivid imagination for stories,” said the Beavercreek resident.

“Even when I played with my brothers as a kid, I insisted we play pretend in a way that followed an adventure, a story. Writing my stories down was the next logical step from that.”

She describes her writing as “generally fantasy adventure stories – tales of journeys and dragons, heroes and swords, great destinies and faraway lands.”

Released June 9, “The Arcandin” is such a fantasy adventure, a novel set “”in a world of animals, and follows the journey of a young cat named Topaz whose birthright is far greater than he can imagine. It’s an exciting tale of mercenaries and bards, knights and assassins, a corrupt ruler and an ancient order of protectors.”

Sellers started the book when she was 15, finishing it by the age of 18. She initially self-published it as an e-book through Barnes and Noble. It was released June 9 as a paperback through another online publisher, lulu.com

Sellers sees another form of storytelling in her future.

“I love the medium of animation for storytelling, and someday I’d like to start my own studio,” Sellers attended Clark State Community College for a year, working on her general studies, and then spent another year at Brigham Young University Idaho, studying art and design.

“I also worked there for a few months as an animator, creating animated tutorial videos for the science department. My goal is to transfer to Brigham Young University Provo and pursue a degree in animation,” said Sellers, who has had other works published.

She self-published a collection of short stories and poems titled “Ducks and Walnuts” through lulu.com, and several of her short stories were included in anthologies published through her high school, Ohio Virtual Academy. “The Arcandin” is her debut novel but not likely to be her last or only one as she has plans to continue to writing.

“I still have stories to tell. There are lots of stories that I want to bring to the world — through any medium I find. Someday I’d like to create beautiful animated films, graphic novels, maybe even Broadway shows or theatrical plays … I’d like to publish books through a standard publisher someday, so that I might see my books sitting on a bookstore shelf.”

The $26 paperback is available from www.lulu.com/shop , the $8 Kindle edition is available at www.Amazon.com and it is available in the Nook edition through www.barnesandnoble.com for $7.99.
