City officials say the change will reduce the emissions and street damage that can come from frequent heavy truck traffic. And the 65-gallon wheeled tote has a lid to prevent recyclables from blowing away as they sometimes did with the 18-gallon blue bins.
Residents who have any issues with the free 65-gallon container — didn’t receive one, don’t want it, or want a second one — should notify the city at (937) 848-4638 or (937) 848-4666. Regardless of what receptacle is used, recyclables will be picked up every two weeks.
Starting Friday, if residents place both their old and new recycling containers at the curb, Allied Waste will remove the old 18-gallon blue bin.
Detailed information on the new recycling program is available at www.cityofbellbrook.org. All 2010 pickup dates are listed, and there is a breakdown of what items are accepted.
City Manager Mark Schlagheck said because Bellbrook agreed to the new plan, there will be no rate increase from Allied Waste. Schlagheck said the current $17 per month fee, which is lower than the cost in Kettering or Centerville, will not increase until at least 2012, and possibly until 2015.
