Cabbage dinner a Trotwood tradition

If there is one thing that the people of Trotwood enjoy, it’s their cabbage rolls.

And for that reason, the Trotwood United Church of Christ is gearing up for its annual Cabbage Roll Dinner. It’s set for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at the church, 18 N. Broadway St.

“Shirley Denlinger and her crew will be fixing this great meal,” said Trotwood resident and spokeswoman Bonnie Schenkn.

Denlinger is the head chef and cabbage roll maker, a role she’s taken for many, many years.

The group’s philosophy is, “Why mess with perfection?” and “Who doesn’t like a good cabbage roll?” so the menu hasn’t changed much over time. It includes real mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, dessert and a drink. Meat loaf will be available for those who prefer it.

Schenk said diners should arrive early because sometimes they run out of cabbage rolls. Regulars come back year after year and Schenk knows why.

“These cabbage rolls are known for being the best in the Miami Valley,” she boasted.

The public is invited.

The cost is $7 per adult and $3.50 for children 10 and younger.
