Class of ’66 composite an addition to high school halls

MONROE — A hallway in Monroe High School will now have a composite photos of the 1966 graduating class.

Rocky Heflin, a 1966 Lemon-Monroe graduate who spent 30 years in the district and four years on the school board, presented a composite photo in a 52-by-52-inch to the board of education last week.

“My graduating class had some mini-reunions and the class officers — I’m not one by the way — were unbelievably thrilled with the new school,” Heflin said. “We wanted to do something and I suggested we construct a class picture composite. ... We’re really pleased to have it up there.”

Heflin explained that in 1958, the class composite photos were no longer made, then they restarted the project in 1995 and stopped again in ’99.

The class of ’66, Heflin said, used the class photos from the yearbook to create one large sheet with different graphics, such as the Monroe logo.

“Over the past year, we experimented with different techniques,” said Heflin, who noted that 201 people are in the photo. “It looks nice in the frame.”
