CLEARCREEK TWP. — Local police recently hosted the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies for a required on-site assessment.

“The on-site visit is an integral part of the CALEA credentialing program,” said Sgt. Wallace Stacy, accreditation manager of department.

The accreditation programs are designed to improve the delivery of public safety services by maintaining standards, covering a range of public safety initiatives, establishing and administering an accreditation process and recognizing professional excellence.

Police Chief John Terrill initiated the program to further enhance the relationship with the community and strengthen professionalism within the department.

Residents were encouraged to provide comments about the department in a public information session.

The process takes months to complete and provides law enforcement agencies an opportunity to voluntarily demonstrate that they meet an established set of professional standards.
