Construction boom: 10 downtown Dayton projects

Greater downtown Dayton is in the midst of a healthy construction boom that promises to bring new jobs, housing, amenities, entertainment and infrastructure upgrades.

Projects already underway represent about $370 million in private and public sector investment, according to city of Dayton estimates. Here is a closer look at 10 of those projects:

1) $140 million for Dayton Children’s new patient tower, an eight-story building consisting of 260,000 square feet of space that should open in June.

2) $64 million for Dayton Metro Library’s new main downtown library, which is under construction and is expected to open in May.

3) $31.5 million for Sinclair Community College’s new Health Sciences Center. The center will house more than 40 programs that are located at various points across campus.

4) $25 million for the Delco Lofts apartment building, which is next to Fifth Third Field and will offer 129 market-rate apartments and a first floor restaurant and brewery, Lock 27.

5) $21 million for the Marriott at the University of Dayton, which is a full-scale renovation of 399 hotel rooms, nine suites and 13,600 square feet of meeting space. The project should be completed in February.

6) $8 million for the rehabilitation of the vacant Weustoff & Getz building at 210 Wayne Avenue. The project will create about 40 loft-style apartments and a restaurant on the first floor by Louisville-based Troll Pub Under the Bridge.

7) $6.4 million for the Monument Walk housing project, which is 17 upscale townhomes being constructed by Charles Simms Development. The homes, located on Monument Avenue close to the YMCA of Dayton, were expected to cost $450,000 or more.

8) $4 million for the RiverScape River Run, which is creating a whitewater play park downtown in the Great Miami River. Five Rivers MetroParks is constructing a rocky structure that spans the width of the river that has whitewater passage ways for paddling activities.

9) $3 million for the CODE Credit Union expansion project, which will construct a 8,600-square-foot new facility adjacent to its offices on Monument Avenue. The expansion project is expected to add jobs.

10) $2 million* for the construction of a new Dialysis Center at 821 Edwin C. Moses Blvd.
