Benson said he originally owned the Centerville Catering restaurant next door to the pizza and barbecue but, after a couple changes in ownership, now the two are under one umbrella and one philosophy.
Centerville Pizza & BBQ and Centerville Catering, which offers a variety of food and services, offers food made from scratch.
“We do things the chains aren’t doing, such as dough made daily, fresh-cut ingredients, and homemade sauce and sides made from family recipes,” said Benson, noting that the restaurants have built up a solid customer base.
“We are a mom and pop operation. It is more labor intensive, but puts out a better product. That’s what’s got to set us apart.”
Benson was raised in Preble County and has lived in Centerville since 1989 with his wife and son.
“We discount very little and coupon even less, but our customers will tell you that what makes us special is our customer service and that we get to know people,” he said, adding that they deliver everything. “My driver knows the pets he delivers to as well as he does the customers.”
Despite the restaurant’s lack of consistent discounts, it is running a special. Those who bring in a donation of three canned food items for the Dayton Foodbank will get $1 off a Broaster Chicken deal or $2 off of a large pizza.
“We also support a lot of library programs and co-sponsored the Mystery Night Out with Centerville police,” he said.
Centerville Pizza & BBQ and Centerville Catering is at 9470 S. Main St. in Washington Twp., across from the Kroger Marketplace under construction.
