Koenig Equipment moving up to Miami County

The new location will feature more space; Vandalia store will close after the move.

TIPP CITY, Miami County — When Koenig Equipment, Inc., opens its new John Deere dealership on County Road 25A at Blauser Drive in January, the new building will be twice the size of their current building on U.S. 40 in Vandalia.

They’ll be closing their Vandalia store once the move is made, said Ray Koenig, president of the company and one of 28 owners of the employee-owned company. Eight of his family members own the controlling stock in the company, started by his grandfather in 1904, he said.

“We’re moving our operations to be closer to the center of where our customer base is located,” Koenig said. He considers that Troy, Tipp City, New Carlisle, Piqua and Covington, he said.

Workers from Ferguson Construction Co. in Sidney have been busy erecting the 18,000 square-foot steel and concrete structure. It needs to be strong to support a bridge crane running the entire length of the equipment area of the shop, Koenig said.

Besides carrying John Deere farm equipment up to 60 to 70 horsepower, they’ll have small construction and excavating equipment, lawn mowers, and utility vehicles like the John Deere Gator, he said.

Some 13,000 square feet of the building will be a parts area, a big part of the business, along with service, Koenig said.

The dealership will have about nine employees to start and won’t be hiring new ones right away, though “we’re always looking for good employees,” he said.

The new building is an investment of more than a million dollars, he said. “We’re here to stay. We plan to landscape the building well. Everything will be fenced in, so no parking lot will be visible.”

Koenig Equipment, Inc. has 11 stores, seven in Ohio and four in Indiana, Koenig said. They bought property on KitchenAid Way in Greenville to build on in the future, he said. That store would handle larger farm equipment used in the Darke County area, he said.
