Lebanon family’s dream vacation videotaped by HGTV

LEBANON — A local family has recently returned from a whirlwind secret vacation and soon their adventure will be shown on national television.

Bob and Lisa Pence and their three children, John, 12; Emily, 9; and Avery, 3, of Lebanon, won a dream vacation from the HGTV reality show “House Hunters on Vacation.” The family of five traveled in late April for a 10-day all-expenses paid trip. Their vacation was videotaped and will air later this summer on HGTV. Because the show has not aired yet, Lisa Pence cannot reveal the destination. She can only say “it was somewhere warm.”

“It was a wonderful experience,” Lisa said. “It really was the adventure of a lifetime and everyone at the show worked very hard to make my family feel so special.”

The vacation was a welcome getaway for the Pence family, especially since Bob, a U.S. Marine, spent nine months in Iraq in 2009 and 2010.

The Pences first entered a contest for the vacation in February and were invited by producers to send a videotape in which each family member discussed what they’d do on a dream vacation. HGTV crews also spent a day filming the Pences life in Lebanon. The family was filmed at downtown’s Village Ice Cream Parlor.

“They were here for about 45 minutes,” said co-owner Susie Alexander. “They were filmed walking down the street, and then the kids sat on our stools and we served them ice cream cones.”

While eating their treats, the family — still in the dark about where they might be headed — discussed what they hoped the destination would be.

“It was really cool,” Alexander said.

HGTV officials have not yet scheduled the Pence’s episode.
