Wright-Patterson Air Force Base supports more than 30,000 vehicles transiting through the installation’s seven access control points each day with the 88th Security Forces Squadron safeguarding the wing’s roadways. Even with all precautions in place, in 2019 there have been 106 vehicle accidents of which 17 resulted in injury or disabling damage. On top of that there has also been 306 traffic citations.

Wright-Patterson’s employees and residents are reminded to pay close attention to traffic safety measures. As winter approaches, drivers are urged to prepare and be flexible with schedules as there may be unexpected delays because of roadway conditions.

Supervisors are encouraged to allow employees to be flexible in their arrival time to safely report for duty, such as staggered reporting. Wright-Patterson motorists are also reminded to pay close attention when transiting around the installation during peak hours. Please note, traffic in the Area A military family housing and temporary lodging facility areas is restricted to residents and guests only.

Additionally, be prepared to stop for school buses for young school age residents in the housing areas. The 88th Security Forces Squadron has implemented an aggressive enforcement strategy focused on these areas with the intent to mitigate accidents and to make base roads safer.

Listed below are speed limits for various base areas:

  • Maximum speed on Wright-Patterson is 25 mph (unless otherwise posted or specified)

  • Parking lots – Unless otherwise posted, the speed limit for all parking lots is 10 mph
