New veterinary office begins construction in Lebanon

LEBANON — Rich Coleman had spent a decade dreaming of his own veterinary practice. Even though he has owned and operated Four Paws Animal Hospital in Lebanon for the past six years, Coleman said he felt that on Thursday, his dream had finally come true.

Coleman, surrounded by friends and family, broke ground on a new 5,400-square-foot animal hospital at the corner of Drake Road and Columbus Avenue in Lebanon. When the facility is completed, scheduled to be in November of this year, Coleman’s practice will expand by more than three times the size of its current 1,500-square-foot facility.

“This is something I’ve had in my mind since I was in veterinary school,” said Coleman. “I am very excited that this facility will allow us to provide the best possible care for everybody’s pets.”

Coleman said the new facility will have five exam rooms, a digital X-ray machine, a surgery suite, an intensive-care room and a kennel that would be able to hold up to 20 pets.

“Dr. Coleman, you had a vision and you worked hard to achieve it,” said Lebanon Mayor Amy Brewer.

Brewer commended Coleman for his charitable work and community service.

“We all know Dr. Rich serves the animal community but he also does a lot of work for the citizens of Lebanon as well,” Brewer said.

The construction is being done by Core Resources. Coleman declined to disclose how much the facility will cost.

Coleman, a graduate of the Ohio State University Veterinary School, took over the Plum Veterinarian practice in 2006. The Plums still operate an equine veterinary station out of Four Paws and will continue to do so at the new facility, Coleman said.

Coleman’s wife, Jen, is a first-grade teacher with Lebanon Schools. The couple have two daughters.

The Four Paws current location at 731 Columbus Ave. will remain open until the new facility is built.
