Some Ohio rural speed limits increasing to 70 mph

New state legislation which goes into effect on Sunday means speed limits on many rural roads in Ohio will be going up.

Under the new law, any roads designated as rural divided highways will not have a speed limit of 60 mph while rural expressways without traffic signals will have a speed limit of 65 mph.

Rural freeways will move to a speed limit of 70 mph.

This is the second time this year that 70 mph speed limits have been introduced on rural roadways in Ohio. On July 1 several stretches of rural interstates were switched to higher speed limits of 70 mph.

Local roads that will be affected by the speed limit changes:

  • Greene County: US 35 east of Xenia will now be 70 mph.
  • Mercer and Auglaize counties: Ohio 29/US 33 between Celina and Wapakoneta will be 65 mph.
  • Logan County: US 33 between Huntsville and Bellefontaine will be 65 mph, then 70 mph through and south of Bellefontaine towards Marysville.
  • Darke County: US 127 around Greenville will now be 60 mph.
  • Clark County: Ohio 4 between I-70 and National Road will be 70 mph; US 68 from just north of the Clark/Champaign line to just south of I-70 will be 70 mph; US 40 east of Springfield will be 60 mph.
