CENTERVILLE — The city is kicking off the summer with a double dose of jazz.
• First, the Centerville’s Summer Concert Series will continue this weekend with the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors at 7 p.m. Sunday at Stubbs Park Amphitheater.
The premier touring big band for the U.S. Army travels thousands of miles each year throughout the nation and abroad. Since its formation in 1969, the Jazz Ambassadors have appeared in every state and throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
The band presents a diverse program of big band swing, Latin music, contemporary jazz, popular tunes, standards, Dixieland, and patriotic selections.
Members of the Jazz Ambassadors are selected by highly competitive auditions, and represent some of the finest musical talent in America.
More than three decades of touring have earned them the title, “The Musical Ambassadors of the Army.”
On Sunday, the band will be joined by three Centerville High School student musicians — Jon Tobias, saxophone; Joe Duffy, trumpet; and Adam Crusey, trombone — to play “In the Mood.”
Color guard presentation will be by local Centerville VFW Post 9550.
The Centerville Summer Concert Series events are scheduled every week until Sept. 11.
