But the three-day weekend is only so long and you can’t be everywhere at once.
In case you couldn’t make it, here are five things you may have missed this weekend.
Soak City Waterpark at Kings Island
Memorial Day weekend was the official start of pool season at Kings Island Soak City. A new water slide, Tropical Plunge, that towers nearly seven stories in Soak City Waterpark made its debut on May 28. This new ride promises to be fast and furious and something that guest haven’t seen before with a high-speed free fall through a series of flat loops and S-curves in a translucent flume.
After 38 years, Skyline Chili made its first appearance at the Taste of Cincinnati. Skyline was only one of 13 new eateries that offered their dishes at the festival which offered a total of 50 eateries. Because of popular demand, Rich Walburg, director of communications for the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce, decided to increase the local beers and food trucks.
Movies released Memorial Day weekend
Memorial Day weekend brought three big movies to theaters. X-Men: Apocalypse with Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy premiered along with Alice Through the Looking Glass and Love & Friendship. Local movie theaters are currently showing all of these films.
The 12th Annual Patriot Freedom Festival was this past weekend at the Dayton VA Medical Center. Music ranging from gospel and Christian rock to classic rock, soul and blues filled the stage throughout the event. Along with the entertainment, people were able to take a guided historical tour on an air-conditioned tour bus, including a trip to the Grotto Gardens.
Springfield’s Memorial Day Parade
Springfield’s parade was one of the biggest the city has ever had with nearly 3,000 people participating. Over 100 groups and close to 300 cars made their way through the city. The groups involved in the parade included bands from local high schools, local military veterans, Boy Scout troops and more.
