Man killed in head-on crash in Darke County identified

A man was killed Wednesday morning after he was ejected from his van following a crash on U.S. 127 in Darke County has been identified.

Yassin Mohamed Ishaq, 44 of Kansas City, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

Ishaq was driving a black 2021 Dodge Sprinter van at 8:40 a.m. north on U.S. 127. Just south of Brown Road, the van went left of center and struck a 2018 Volvo semitrailer head-on that was traveling in the opposite direction, according to a preliminary investigation.

The impact forced the semi to go off the right side of the highway and strike a tree. The semi driver, Zachary Garland, 28, of New Madison, was treated at the scene.

The Darke County Coroner’s Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Enforcement, Ansonia Fire and Rescue, Rossburg Fire and Versailles Fire responded to the crash, which remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
