Bomb squad called to site of Dayton trade show

Suspicious package turned out to be empty suitcase, which was detonated.

UPDATE @ 11:35 p.m.: The Dayton Bomb Squad detonated what turned out to be an empty suitcase found by a Dumpster outside Bainbridge Hall, said Sgt. Jason Hall, Dayton police and Dayton Bomb Squad.

The squad used its robot to check out the suitcase, then opened it remotely and determined there was no threat, Hall said.

Bainbridge Hall is located in the Knights of Columbus facility, 267 Bainbridge St. A trade show for metropolitan housing was taking place in the hall when the suitcase was discovered, a witness said.

The police department had some indication that there have been previous threats against the Knights of Columbus, the sergeant said, but the suitcase had nothing to do with those reports.
