Kentucky homicide suspect captured in Dayton

A man wanted in the early morning slaying of a woman in Lexington, Ky. was captured by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team this morning outside of a North Main Street hair salon.

Jeffrey Jackson, 34, is wanted in the death of Quantina Reed, 37, who was shot and killed at about 4 a.m. this morning, according to WKYT in Lexington. Friends and family tell that station that Reed was a mother of two children, ages 8 and 14 who were asleep at the time of the killing, were not injured, and seemed unaware of what had happened.

Reed suffered a single gunshot wound to the upper body. She was found by Lexington Fire crews in her garage, after they responded to a 911 call made by a friend of Reed’s, who told authorities they were worried she might be hurt or injured, according to WKYT.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Nathan Lupica said SOFAST got word from law enforcement in Kentucky that Jackson may on the west side of Dayton because he has family in the area.

They went looking for his mint green Chrysler 300 with custom wheels and spotted it in the lot of a hair salon at 3200 N. Main St. at about 11 a.m. this morning. Lupica said Jackson was sitting in the car waiting to get his hair cut.

He was taken into custody without incident and will be held in the Montgomery County Jail while awaiting extradition to Kentucky.

WKYT talked to Reed’s father, Jesse Mitchell, who said she was a good person.

“She was a person. All she did was work, and come home, you know? Take care of her kids. Do whatever she could for her mom and dad, brother and sisters, you know? She never even had a parking ticket. She was no trouble at all to nobody. You know, for someone to take her life like that is very hard,” Mitchell told WKYT.

Reed was reportedly a housekeeper at a Lexington hospital for 12 years.
