Tommy Gaddis, 39, called police at about 2:08 a.m. Thursday to report that Gamble had assaulted him with a closed fist at the rear of the South Limestone Street address and took the 1999 Toyota Carolla in which he had given Gamble a ride.
Police arrived the saw that Gaddis at suffered a knot to his face and a two-inch cut below his right eye. The assault occurred minutes after Gaddis said he drove Gamble to the South Limestone Street address, where Gamble announced he had no place to go and began arguing once they both got out of the car.
Gaddis said it was then that Gamble punched him in the face, apologized, then grabbed the car keys and threw more punches. Gaddis told police he tried to talk Gamble out of taking the car.
Gaddis said Gamble drove off, and he called police because his house keys were with the car keys.
Medics were dispatched and treated Gaddis. They took him to his residence, in the 800 block of West Johnny Lytle Avenue, because he feared Gamble would show up. Sure enough, the residence had been broken into, according to police.
At about 3:30 a.m., police received a call from the area of the South Limestone Street address and were told Gamble was there. Police were dispatched and found Gamble there. They patted him down for weapons and found the cell phone on his person.
“Yeah, it belongs to that guy I was fighting with earlier,” Gamble told police. Police said they found the car on Catherine Street.
Gamble was arrested and taken in for questioning. He gave police a statement, waived his right to legal counsel and was jailed on one count of aggravated robbery with intent to inflict serious harm.
Thursday afternoon, Gamble pleaded not guilty in Clark County Municipal Court. His bond remains at $15,000, according to court record.
